Introduction:
Gakuto is a small pension with warm family atmosphere. It is conveniently located at the entrance to the biggest ski resort in Hakuba, Happo-one, with only a 3 min. walk to the ski lift system. There is also a shuttle bus just outside the pension which can take you to the lift system.
The pension is also located just outside the village of Hakuba, where you can find numerous restaurants, open air hot springs and shops. The nightlife is also tempting here, with many local Japanese Izakaya bars and western style pubs which makes the after ski unforgettable.

Rooms:
The pension is very small, with only 11 rooms in total. All of them are Japanese style, which means you sleep on futon mattresses on the floor. The 7 rooms in the main building are without bath or toilet. The room size varies between 15-20 sqm. The annex building has 4 rooms, all equipped with private bath and toilet. They are all traditional style, and about 40 sqm. All rooms have television, refrigerator and towels. You also get internet access in the rooms.

Facilities:
The building is made of Cypress wood, well maintained and with warm colors. In the main building you find a cozy dining and sitting area, where you will get your Japanese breakfast served. Furthermore, there is a karaoke room, ski lockers and laundry room, which makes your stay here ideal for skiing.
The owner of Gakuto has had this place since 1963, and is a very enthusiastic skier. He supported the national Japanese team as a serviceman during the ski world cup tournaments in both Europe and North America.
Gakuto Alpine Lodge is definitely the place to stay, if you want the real Japanese experience.
